Product’s highlights

We noticed clock rates of over 2.5GHz on AMD’s RX 6700 XT during gaming sessions – and that’s on the reference card, at stock. We were able to get rates of 2.7-2.8GHz with some tweaking and overclocking, all while avoiding overheating the GPU. That’s rather good, and factory overclocked cards can achieve even higher clock speeds for a higher price.

The RX 6700 XT battled the RTX 3070 and RTX 3060 Ti in our performance tests. It’s a little faster than the latter and slower than the former, so the $480 asking price is fair. Even still, when we consider games that use DLSS or ray tracing, the 6700 XT trails the 3060 Ti and almost seems like a 3060 competition for amd radeon rx 6700 xt.

  How We Configured Our Test Systems: We tested the graphics cards represented in this article on a MSI X570 Godlike motherboard, equipped with a Ryzen 9 5950X CPU and 16GB of G.SKILL DDR4 RAM clocked at 3,200MHz. The first thing we did when configuring the test system was enter the UEFI and set all values to their “high performance” defaults, then we disabled any integrated peripherals that wouldn’t be put to use. The memory’s clock was dialed in to its optimal performance settings using its XMP profile and the solid state drive was then formatted and Windows 10 Professional x64 was installed and fully updated. When the Windows installation was complete, we installed all of the drivers, games, applications and benchmark tools necessary to complete our tests. For all of the tests, Radeon RX 6000 series cards were tested using their “Balanced” performance profile with Smart Access Memory (Resizable BAR) enabled.

  This time around, there is no reference version of the card available directly from AMD. That means that from day one, there will be multiple versions available from all of the major brands, including those with factory overclocks and novel cooling solutions. AMD promised that at least some of these models would meet its suggested pricing of $379 and that it had readied stock before launch. We can only hope for a better launch than we’ve seen with other cards this generation, but given the incredible demand, you’ll likely need to move quickly to secure one for yourself for amd radeon rx 6700 xt

   

  The lack of an “official” reference version means that reviewers are getting different AIB cards to look at for launch today. For this review, I was sent the ASUS ROG Strix Radeon RX 6600 XT OC, which will retail for $549. It’s a souped up version compared to the reference spec with a mild factory of overclock and a beefy dual fan cooler. Depending on which version you get, your factory overclock and cooling solution could be different, but so long as your temperatures don’t result in thermal throttling, each version is likely to exceed its rated clock speed anyway, resulting in performance that is close across the board.
